Occupational Therapy Assesmsent

Not sure what equipment is suitable? Our Occupational Therapists will guide you through the options and recommend what works best.

Introduction

During the assessment, our Occupational Therapist will work with the client to trial suitable equipment and observe how it is used in a practical setting. This allows for more informed and personalised recommendations, particularly for daily living aids, mobility equipment, and smaller assistive products.

What this assessment includes

  • Functional assessment of the client’s abilities
  • Trial of equipment in a controlled environment
  • Guidance on suitable options and setup
  • Recommendations tailored to the client’s needs

Showroom Assessment is suitable when:

  • The client can attend the showroom safely
  • Equipment can be trialled without home setup
  • The focus is on smaller or portable equipment

Home Assessment is recommended when:

A home assessment is often necessary for larger or more complex equipment. It allows the OT to assess the client’s environment, space, layout, and safety considerations, ensuring that the recommended equipment is suitable and practical for use at home. Examples are:

  • Beds and bedroom equipment
  • Bathroom and toileting setups
  • Transfer and manual handling devices
  • When home modification is indicated

Our fees

OT assessments are charged at an hourly rate of $194 + GST. This rate applies to:

  • Face-to-face assessment time
  • Equipment trials and clinical consultation
  • Report writing and recommendations

We will guide you on the expected time required based on your needs.

Our approach

We aim to provide the most appropriate assessment based on each client’s needs.

Where suitable, a showroom assessment can be an efficient way to trial equipment and make decisions. Where environmental factors are critical, a comprehensive home assessment ensures that recommendations are safe and practical within the client’s home.

We can refer your clients onto experienced Occupational Therapists who provide home-based assessments.
