The Able Life Universal Stand Assist is a steel support frame that slides beneath the cushion of a lounge or armchair and gives the user two handles to push up from when standing and to steady on when sitting. Held in position by the seat cushion, it adds secure handholds to furniture already in the home. The frame adjusts in width from 48 to 65 cm and in depth from 60 to 68 cm to suit most cushioned couches and chairs, and the handles sit 54 to 80 cm above the floor, with a further 19 to 26 cm of adjustment above the base. The sections snap together, so the frame is slid into the seat and set to height. It weighs 3 kg, is built from powder-coated steel and supports up to 136 kg.

The two handles give leverage at the point where rising from a soft lounge is hardest, which can reduce how often another person is needed for an everyday transfer. Width, depth and handle height all adjust, so a single frame suits a range of seating, and the low profile means it reads as part of the furniture rather than as equipment in the living room.
