The Hero Medical Standard Toilet Surround is a freestanding aluminium frame that stands over an existing toilet and places a raised armrest on either side of the user. The arms give something solid to push up from when standing and to lower down against when sitting, which takes much of the effort out of a toilet transfer. Nothing is fixed to the wall or the floor, so the surround can be positioned over the pan and lifted away again when it is not wanted. The legs are set with locking pins and place the armrests between 66 cm and 79 cm from the floor, with 54 cm between the arms and an overall footprint of 67 cm wide by 52 cm deep. One leg carries extra adjustment holes so the frame can be levelled on an uneven floor, and rubber anti-slip tips grip wet or tiled surfaces.

Raised arms at the right height can be the single change that allows someone to manage toileting without help, and the open base keeps the toilet itself accessible for cleaning. The surround is freestanding, so it suits rented homes and temporary needs, and at 2 kg it is light enough to move aside when another member of the household uses the bathroom.
