The Smart Stand is a manual transfer aid that supports a person through sit to stand movement and then moves them between seats in either a seated or a standing position. It was developed for clients with impaired balance and reduced leg strength, and it relies on the user having sufficient arm strength and weight bearing ability to take an active part, so the transfer follows a natural pattern of movement rather than a lift. The rotating seat parts, the lower leg and knee supports and the chassis are all adjustable, which allows the frame to be set up around the individual and the chair being transferred from. The base measures 80 cm in length and 61.5 cm across on its narrow setting, the frame stands 107 cm high, and the powder coated steel construction weighs 33 kg with a maximum user weight of 150 kg.

Having the person push up and bear weight themselves keeps them involved in their own transfer, which matters for maintaining confidence and function rather than simply moving them. The breadth of adjustment means a single frame can be set for different people and different seat heights. Its compact footprint also suits bedsides, bathrooms and other confined spaces where larger equipment will not fit.
